Meta Lobbies Congress for Immunity from Child-Harm Lawsuits

Meta is now lobbying U.S. lawmakers for legal immunity from state child-harm suits under the Kids Online Safety Act as litigation intensifies. The push follows a June 10 California ruling that upheld a $6 million verdict against Meta and Google for addictive platform design and rejected their Section 230 defense. On June 17, New Mexico escalated pressure by seeking an additional $953 million penalty after a prior $375 million civil fine, while more than 4,000 related lawsuits remain pending with a major federal trial set for August 6.
