Meta extends custom chips deal with Broadcom to power AI ambitions

Meta expanded its custom chip partnership with Broadcom, extending the deal through 2029 and committing an initial capacity of over one gigawatt (roughly enough power for 750,000 U.S. homes) to support AI features across its apps. Broadcom CEO Hock Tan will shift from Meta’s board to an advisory role on custom-chip strategy. The move reinforces Broadcom’s role in the AI infrastructure supply chain and helped lift Broadcom’s shares about 3.5% in extended trading, while Meta’s shares were little changed. Meta has unveiled a roadmap of four new MTIA chips (the MTIA 300 is already in use) with three additional generations due through 2027, signaling sustained multi-gigawatt scaling and reduced reliance on Nvidia processors.
