Meta and Sierra Partner With Retailers to Launch Open Personal Agent Protocol
Meta Platforms has partnered with conversational AI startup Sierra and corporate partners to launch the Personal Agent Protocol, an open standard designed to enable personal artificial intelligence agents to interact directly with businesses. The initiative, joined by companies including Walmart, Stripe, Shopify, Genesys, Instinct, and Rocket, replaces manual web navigation with OAuth authorization and direct API access. The protocol emerges after retailers like Amazon blocked automated agents over web scraping concerns, following the rapid growth of Meta's Muse AI agent to millions of U.S. users. A version 0.1 specification is planned for release later this month.
