Meta and Microsoft Curb Internal Anthropic Claude Usage to Promote Proprietary AI
Meta Platforms and Microsoft are scaling back internal employee use of Anthropic's Claude artificial intelligence tools in favor of proprietary alternatives. Meta reduced active internal Claude Code users from roughly 60,000 to about 30,000, even as spending exceeded $105 million over a recent 28-day period. The company is actively promoting in-house tools including MetaCode, which now serves over 30,000 users. Meanwhile, Microsoft cut its projected $1 billion internal budget for Anthropic technology by more than a third since May to curb token costs and prioritize native models.
