LibertyStream Targets 1,000-Tonne Lithium Facility in Permian by Dec 2026

LibertyStream has deployed its Gen 6 direct lithium extraction platform in the Permian Basin, extracting lithium from oilfield produced water in partnership with Select Water Solutions. The system has already processed 400,000 barrels and produced lithium carbonate in field tests. The company aims to commission its first commercial facility, targeting up to 1,000 tonnes per year of lithium carbonate by December 2026. This development responds to surging BESS demand, which rose 51% last year, and aims to reduce U.S. reliance on Chinese lithium processing amid a projected 600,000-tonne annual shortfall by 2034.
