L2BEAT confirms emergency exits now independent for ETH Layer 2
L2BEAT has independently rebuilt and audited Lighter’s zero-knowledge emergency-withdrawal circuits, confirming compatibility with Ethereum Layer 1 contracts and enabling users to generate valid ZK proofs themselves. The release of the source code and the ability to run a provided build_circuits.sh script removes the previous single-point-of-trust risk in Lighter’s “desert mode,” ensuring permissionless on-chain exits even if the project team or sequencer is unavailable. This transparency milestone reduces counterparty risk for users of Lighter and strengthens trust in ZK-based Layer 2 solutions, which may support greater user adoption and liquidity on Ethereum Layer 2s and lower the systemic risk premium priced into ETH-related products.
