Top individual gainers on the Nikkei 225 included Mitsubishi Materials Corp., which surged 5.95% to 5,963.00, Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc., rising 3.96% to 538.30, and Advantest Corp., which gained 3.63% to reach 35,700.00. Conversely, downside pressure was led by SUMCO Corp., declining 3.90% to 3,405.00, and marine shipping firms Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (-3.36%) and Nippon Yusen (-2.48%). Meanwhile, the Nikkei Volatility index jumped 8.11% to 30.41, signaling elevated hedging activity. In currency and commodity markets, the Japanese yen slightly strengthened, pushing USD/JPY down 0.08% to 159.06, while crude oil and Brent futures retreated over 1.8% each.
