Japan LDP Proposes Crypto Tax Overhaul and National Web3 Strategy
On June 2, Japan’s ruling LDP parliamentary league formally proposed a national Web3 strategy alongside crypto tax and regulatory reforms. This builds directly on the June 1 call for crypto ETF rules and yen-stablecoin promotion to counter dollar-pegged tokens. Key measures include reviewing self-assessment and withholding taxes, clarifying inheritance treatment, raising the 2x retail leverage cap, and creating an ETF framework. Earlier milestones such as JPYC’s ¥1 billion issuance and major-bank stablecoin trials provide domestic momentum. The package, still requiring Diet approval, aims to cut friction for holders and attract institutional flows.
