Hyundai Motor to roll out in-house driver-assist system in 2029

Hyundai Motor Group has delayed the launch of its proprietary driver-assistance software to late 2029, two years past its original late-2027 timeline. To bridge the gap, the South Korean automotive giant is expanding its strategic collaboration with Nvidia Corporation (NVDA) to deploy Level 2+ and Level 2++ advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) by 2028. Under this arrangement, Hyundai will utilize Nvidia's Hyperion 10 platform, initially deploying camera, ultrasonic, and radar-based configurations while reserving lidar sensors for potential Level 3 commercialization. Hyundai plans to co-design the system alongside Nvidia, gathering driving data across its and Kia's combined annual volume of over 7 million vehicles to train and refine its proprietary software platform, Atria, targeting data leadership by 2033. The partnership highlights the formidable software development hurdles traditional automakers face against competitors like Tesla and Chinese EV makers. For Nvidia, the expanded collaboration solidifies its pivotal role in the automotive ecosystem, extending beyond AI compute infrastructure and robotics into large-scale automated driving platforms.
