Hormuz Tanker Transits Hit Two-Month Low Following Surge in Attacks
Commodity vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has dropped to its slowest pace in over two months, with only seven vessels navigating the chokepoint on Tuesday. Crude volumes crossing the strait dropped 27% week-on-week to at least 10.1 million barrels per day, about 74% of pre-war baseline levels. The decline follows a record surge in maritime hostility from September 28 to October 5, when at least 12 tanker attacks were recorded. To offset disruptions, alternative coastal exports from the Gulf of Oman and Red Sea expanded to 6.7 million barrels per day.
