HBO Max to expand Japan reach through Prime Video, Hulu
Warner Bros. Discovery has announced a strategic distribution expansion in Japan, making its HBO Max streaming service available through Amazon's Prime Video and Nippon Television's Hulu Japan starting October 1. This move aims to significantly enhance viewer access and subscription reach in the Japanese market. Under the partnership terms, Amazon Prime Video users in Japan will have the option to purchase HBO Max's Standard or Premium tiers as a separate add-on subscription directly within the Prime Video application. In contrast, Hulu Japan customers will gain access to the Standard tier at no additional cost. Furthermore, the agreement with Nippon Television includes exploring opportunities to distribute Japanese content internationally via the HBO Max platform. The service will feature extensive catalogs from HBO, Warner Bros., Max Originals, and DC Studios, including blockbuster franchises like Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and The Lord of the Rings. For Amazon, this integration strengthens Prime Video's value proposition as a premier content aggregator in the competitive Asia-Pacific streaming landscape.
