Google's Gemini app surges to one billion users

Google announced that the Gemini app has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, making it one of the company’s fastest-growing products and its 14th product to reach that milestone. The app is now keeping pace with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which hit 1 billion monthly active users in June. Google said Gemini’s growth has been driven by deeper integration across Search, Workspace, Android, and its standalone app, while new features like Gemini 3.5 Flash are aimed at coding and autonomous agent tasks. Usage metrics also highlight strong engagement: 63% of users use voice, Gemini generates more than 150 million images per day, and the app has over 100 million active users on iOS. The milestone reinforces Google’s competitive position in the AI race and may support sentiment around Alphabet’s AI monetization and product ecosystem ahead of its Made by Google event.
