Google to invest $15 billion AI infrastructure in Finland

Alphabet's Google announced plans to invest at least €13 billion ($15.1 billion) in artificial intelligence infrastructure in Finland over the next two years, marking the tech giant's single largest investment in Europe to date. The move comes as part of Alphabet's broader expansion strategy, which has seen its annual global capital expenditure budget rise to between $195 billion and $205 billion to meet booming computing and AI demand. The capital expenditure will fund data centres, electrical grid enhancements, clean energy, and battery storage projects. These facilities will directly support Google's flagship AI and consumer services, including Gemini, Search, Maps, and YouTube. Finland is increasingly attracting major tech players due to its abundant low-carbon electricity and cold climate, which significantly lowers cooling costs for massive data facilities. From an economic standpoint, the project is projected to contribute roughly $3.6 billion to Finland's gross domestic product during construction and support approximately 7,000 jobs annually once fully operational in 2027 and 2028.
