Google is making it easier to switch between password managers on Android

Alphabet's Google has introduced a new credential migration feature for Android devices designed to streamline switching between password manager applications. The update eliminates the traditional requirement of downloading and uploading unencrypted CSV files, instead offering a direct, secure transfer interface coordinated at the operating system level. Users can review and approve transfers with minimal friction. Crucially, the feature supports the migration of cryptographic passkeys alongside standard usernames and passwords, preventing users from having to recreate their passkey credentials across services. The system is launching with support for Google's native password manager alongside third-party services including 1Password, Bitwarden, and Dashlane, with backward compatibility extending to devices running Android 8 and newer. This update strengthens Android's overall security architecture and lowers barrier-to-entry friction for consumer identity management, reflecting Google's broader commitment to accelerating passkey adoption across the mobile ecosystem.
