Google Expands Voluntary Employee Buyout Offers to Multiple International Hubs

Alphabet's Google has widened its voluntary employee buyout programs to several international markets, including Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and Switzerland. The initiative, initiated in June, is designed to rein in operating costs as the company accelerates capital expenditures and infrastructure investments in artificial intelligence. Staff who accept the buyout receive one month of salary per year of service, capped at 12 months. In Switzerland, where Google employs roughly 5,000 workers, the offer spanned multiple divisions, while strategic priority units including Google Cloud and AI research division DeepMind were excluded.
