Google AI Glasses Hands-On Shows Real-Time AI Promise but Needs Polish

On May 22, hands-on tests by TechCrunch of Google’s Gemini-powered audio glasses prototype praised real-time translation, Maps navigation and object recognition while highlighting fuzzy single-eye display, 45-second edit latency and battery concerns. The review follows Google’s May 19 I/O announcement of the audio-first wearable developed with Warby Parker, Gentle Monster and Samsung, scheduled for fall 2026 release ahead of display models. Gemini Omni Flash also began rolling out to AI subscribers via Flow platforms, backed by 900 million Gemini users and 280 billion Street View images integrated into Genie 3 for Waymo simulations, intensifying competition with Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses that sold 7 million units in 2025.
