Google adds personalization to Search and News
Alphabet announced new personalization features across Search, Discover, and Google News aimed at giving users more control over what content they see and helping publishers build direct audience relationships. The update includes a ‘Preferred Sources’ button that publishers can add to their sites, allowing readers to mark them as preferred on Google and return to the original page. Google said users have already selected more than 600,000 unique sources. It will also let users fine-tune Discover recommendations by specifying topics or links they want to see more or less of, with changes applied immediately. In Google News, Android users can customize audio briefings by selecting specific topics and viewing clearer source links. The market impact is likely modest but positive, reinforcing Google’s commitment to engagement, content discovery, and publisher tools without materially changing the company’s near-term financial outlook.
