Gold vs. Bitcoin: XAU/USD Rebounds as BTC Tests $75,000

Gold has demonstrated solid resilience and outperformance compared to Bitcoin as safe-haven demand accelerates amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and concerns surrounding fiscal stability. Spot gold rebounded approximately 0.8% to trade near $4,328 per ounce, underpinned by strong institutional appetite and record holdings in global gold-backed ETFs. In August alone, global gold ETFs attracted $18 billion in net inflows, lifting total holdings by 121 tonnes to an all-time record of 4,189 tonnes. In addition, central bank accumulation remains robust, highlighted by the People's Bank of China purchasing 20.2 metric tonnes. In contrast, Bitcoin struggled and slipped to around $75,500 after the U.S. Senate failed to advance key regulatory legislation, resulting in daily spot Bitcoin ETF outflows of $450.4 million. Technical analysis of the gold-to-Bitcoin ratio, currently hovering near 0.057, points to continued relative outperformance for the yellow metal. While elevated U.S. Treasury yields and upcoming Federal Reserve monetary policy decisions pose potential near-term volatility, safe-haven demand and physical institutional allocations keep the broader outlook for gold decidedly positive.
