Gold Falls to $4,189 on Hawkish Fed, Third Weekly Loss Looms
Gold extended losses into June 19, falling to $4,189.26/oz and heading for a third straight weekly decline after the Federal Reserve’s hawkish June 17 decision. The FOMC held rates at 3.50%-3.75% but lifted the 2026 median rate forecast to 3.8% and saw nine officials project a hike next year, sending the dollar to a YTD high at 100.81. Markets now price an 85% chance of a December move, versus 61% pre-decision, while Goldman Sachs cut its year-end gold forecast to $4,900. The non-yielding metal broke below $4,300 support and faces further downside toward $4,000 if the tightening bias holds.
