French Stocks Turning In Mixed Performance
French stocks showed a mixed tone as investors stayed cautious ahead of major central bank policy decisions and corporate earnings. The benchmark France 40 (CAC 40) was up modestly, gaining 18.40 points (0.23%) to 8,160.32. Energy and semiconductor names led gains (TotalEnergies +2.75%, STMicroelectronics ~+2%), while Air Liquide plunged ~4.3% after weaker-than-expected Q1 revenue. Economic data showed rising jobless claims and a higher overall unemployed headcount in March, adding to the uncertainty. With the Fed, ECB, BoE and BoJ all set to announce policy moves this week (ECB widely expected to hold rates), near-term volatility and cautious positioning are likely to persist.
