Eurozone Sentix Investor Confidence Surges to -3.1 as Germany’s Recovery Gains Traction
Eurozone sentiment improved sharply in July, with the Sentix Investor Confidence Index rising to -3.1 from -13.4, its third straight monthly gain. The recovery was broad-based: the Current Situation Index improved to -14.8 and the Expectations Index jumped into positive territory at 9.3. Sentix said Germany is increasingly driving the rebound, helped by recently announced policy measures that boosted confidence and raised hopes Germany is joining the wider global recovery. Inflation fears also eased as lower oil prices, following de-escalation in the Iran conflict, reduced price pressure. The inflation barometer improved markedly and the central bank policy gauge suggested less need for further tightening, potentially giving the ECB more room to stay flexible. For markets, the report is modestly supportive for euro-area growth sentiment and may be euro-positive if it translates into stronger data, but the persistent negative current conditions temper the outlook.
