Europe invested 200 billion euros so far to boost EV sector, New Automotive data shows
New Automotive data shows countries in the European Economic Area and Switzerland have committed nearly €200 billion (about $235bn) to build out the electric-vehicle ecosystem, boosting market capacity and jobs. Spending is concentrated in the battery supply chain (€60bn) and EV manufacturing (€60bn), aimed at reducing China’s dominance after it produced over 80% of batteries in 2025. Public charging rollout is estimated at €23–46bn, with more than 1 million public chargers deployed and €3.5bn spent on manufacturing charging infrastructure. Investments support over 150,000 jobs now and could add ~300,000 if projects materialize; Germany accounts for roughly a quarter of commitments, with Italy, Central & Eastern Europe, France and Spain also major beneficiaries. The buildout strengthens Europe 50-related industrial and autos exposure but highlights uneven national distribution and lingering policy uncertainty after the EU’s 2035 combustion-engine decision.
