EU Court Upholds €4.1B Google Fine as Shares Slip 1.5%

On July 2 the EU’s top court dismissed Alphabet’s final appeal, confirming liability for the record €4.1 billion Android antitrust fine originally imposed in 2018. The ruling follows South Korea’s KFTC accusation on July 1 that Google abused dominance through its Games/Google Velocity Program, allegedly steering developers toward Google Play and affecting 14.16 trillion won ($9.1 billion) in revenue from 2019 to 2026. Google now faces corrective orders and potential fines up to 6% of affected revenue in Korea while the EU penalty remains a binding financial overhang, intensifying global regulatory pressure on its app-store practices. Shares slipped about 1.5% in premarket trading.
