Ethereum targets Oct. 6 for Glamsterdam on Sepolia

Ethereum core developers have tentatively targeted October 6 at 13:53 UTC (epoch 351232) for activating the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Sepolia public testnet. However, protocol researchers and developers noted during the All Core Developers Consensus (ACDC) #186 meeting that the schedule remains conditional, pending the outcome of upcoming testing on private development networks. The cautious approach comes after earlier trials encountered consensus and execution bugs. Devnet-8 suffered consensus-level halting issues, while Devnet-9, configured with roughly 1,000 validator nodes, experienced non-finality. Developers also identified implementation flaws related to EIP-8037, a proposal introducing a multidimensional gas model to manage state growth. Attention has subsequently shifted to the launch of Devnet-11 to validate bug fixes across diverse execution and consensus client implementations. Activation dates for the Hoodi testnet and the Ethereum mainnet remain unconfirmed, though developers have discussed a potential December mainnet release window. Meeting participants, including infrastructure operators from Lido and Optimism, emphasized the necessity of demonstrating cross-client stability and finality before executing public testnet forks.
