Ethereum sees 13.6x more ETH waiting to be staked than exited

Ethereum's staking validator queues have reached a massive imbalance, with the volume of ETH waiting to enter staking exceeding exit requests by 13.6 times. This lopsided ratio reflects surging conviction among stakers, as entry demand created backlogs of up to 2.48 million ETH with wait times reaching 45 days. By late September, the entry queue hovered around 1.8 million ETH, while exit demand remained virtually negligible following a 99.9% collapse since early 2026. Total staked Ethereum has reached an all-time high of approximately 41 million ETH, representing between 33.5% and 34% of the network's total circulating supply across 885,000 to 900,000 validators. Institutional staking operators and upgrades like Pectra have contributed significantly to this accumulation. From a market perspective, locking more than a third of the token supply significantly reduces exchange liquidity and available sell-side order book depth. Furthermore, because Ethereum rate-limits entry and exit flows to roughly 57,600 ETH daily, the staking buffer provides structural protection against sudden supply shocks.
