Ethereum Researcher Urges Crypto Industry to Adopt 'Bunker Mode' Against AI Cryptography Risks
Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake has advised the cryptocurrency industry to prepare a 'bunker mode' defense against potential threats posed by advances in artificial intelligence. Drake warned that AI-driven mathematical reasoning and large GPU clusters could compromise ECDSA signature schemes in months rather than years, arriving faster than quantum computing threats. To safeguard assets, he recommended that exchanges, custodians, and large holders migrate funds to unexposed addresses and transition to hash-based multi-signing schemes such as SPHINCS. While markets reacted neutrally, the advisory accelerates cryptographic roadmap discussions across Ethereum and Bitcoin networks.
