Ethereum liquidity is rising – Could ETH steal Bitcoin's spotlight in Q4?

Ethereum is experiencing a surge in on-chain liquidity and ecosystem adoption, signaling a potential shift in market dominance away from Bitcoin heading into the fourth quarter. While Bitcoin closed August up over 25%, underlying spot demand has remained muted with exchange stablecoin reserves declining and open interest rising, elevating risks of a bull trap near the $80,000 resistance level. In contrast, Ethereum is benefiting from dual drivers of speculative interest and strong on-chain utility. On-chain metrics highlight expanding activity across the Ethereum network, notably in decentralized finance, tokenized assets, and stablecoins. Euro-denominated stablecoin supply minted on Ethereum surged 347.3% over three years to reach $848.1 million, capturing 69.4% of total market share. Staking metrics have also reached record levels, with 42.95 million ETH (worth approximately $105.96 billion) deposited across validators, locking up 35.21% of Ethereum's total circulating supply. This liquidity divergence is bolstering the ETH/BTC ratio, with momentum targeting a breakout above 0.031. Analysts suggest that continued capital rotation into Ethereum could trigger broader altcoin outperformance relative to Bitcoin throughout Q4.
