Ethereum Holders Retain Assets as Exchange Supplies Decrease Significantly
Ethereum exchange reserves have plummeted by 18% since early June, declining from 7.69 million ETH to 6.28 million ETH as roughly 1.4 million coins left trading platforms. This substantial outflow occurred alongside a 27% price increase to $2,528, defying typical market patterns where price appreciation leads to higher exchange deposits and profit-taking. An additional 275,000 ETH was withdrawn from platforms following August 19, underscoring strong holder conviction. The primary destination for the removed tokens has been staking protocols, which now account for more than 35% of total Ethereum network participation as investors seek long-term yield. In contrast, Bitcoin exchange reserves rose by 0.25% over the identical timeframe, reflecting divergent holder strategies. Technically, Ethereum continues to face strong resistance within the $2,497 to $2,585 zone, with analysts highlighting the $2,600 level as the critical hurdle needed to flip the broader market trend constructive. The shrinking exchange float suggests that any subsequent surge in buying demand could trigger heightened market volatility and rapid price appreciation due to a thinner supply pool.
