Ethereum Foundation warns some tools may break with Glamsterdam upgrade
The Ethereum Foundation warned developers that the upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade could break wallets, indexers, and gas estimators that rely on hardcoded gas assumptions. The main change is EIP-8037, which introduces a separate state-gas dimension for operations that create new state. Plain ETH transfers to existing accounts should still cost 21,000 gas, but transfers to new accounts will carry an additional state-gas charge. Developers are being told to test on the Plataberget testnet before the upgrade expands to Sepolia, Hoodi, and eventually mainnet. The notice is important for Ethereum ecosystem tooling because it may require software updates and could create short-term friction for transaction estimation and infrastructure providers, though it is not a direct market price catalyst.
