Ethereum Foundation and Open Anonymity Project Launch zkAPI on Ethereum Mainnet

The Ethereum Foundation and the Open Anonymity Project have launched zkAPI on the Ethereum mainnet, allowing users to pay for artificial intelligence models and API requests anonymously. Users deposit ETH or USDC into an on-chain vault smart contract, converting funds into USDC-denominated credits recorded through private notes. Transactions are authorized via locally generated Groth16 zero-knowledge proofs and cryptographic nullifiers to prevent double-spending without revealing identities. The mainnet deployment arrives less than eight months after a February 2026 research proposal co-authored by Vitalik Buterin and Davide Crapis.
