Ethereum Advances $0.07 Quantum Shield Amid Google's 20x Qubit Cut

As of June 15, Ethereum users can opt into quantum-resistant account protection for roughly $0.07 via the SPHINCS- scheme without a hard fork. The effort began June 12 with an EVM-optimized SPHINCS+ proposal verifying signatures at 127,000 gas, expanded June 13-14 with Ethereum Foundation support and testnet cost estimates, and gained urgency on June 15 when Google research cut the logical-qubit threshold for breaking ECDSA from tens of thousands to about 1,200. Ethereum remains the only major chain with a dedicated Post-Quantum Security team and the $1 million Poseidon Prize, positioning its 2029 readiness timeline ahead of peers.
