Echo Protocol Burns 955 eBTC After Regaining Admin Key Control
Echo Protocol has now regained control of its compromised admin key on Monad and burned the remaining 955 unauthorized eBTC. The incident began on May 19 when a leaked private key enabled minting of 1,000 eBTC worth roughly $76.7 million. The attacker deposited 45 eBTC on Curvance to borrow 11.29 WBTC, bridged assets to Ethereum, and routed 385 ETH through Tornado Cash, realizing about $816,000 in losses. Protocols paused bridge and market operations while security firm Beosin confirmed the root cause was an operational key compromise rather than a smart-contract flaw. Most of the minted supply remained illiquid, limiting broader contagion.
