ECB's Lane Details Expanded EUREP Liquidity Facility Ahead of October Rate Decision

ECB Chief Economist Philip Lane highlighted the expansion of the Eurosystem repo facility for central banks (EUREP) in Shanghai, designed to boost global liquidity and support European sovereign bonds. The facility provides eligible non-euro area central banks standing access to up to €50 billion in same-day off-market liquidity starting in Q4 2026, with over 30 central banks expressing interest. Lane's remarks precede the ECB's October 29 meeting, where markets expect the benchmark deposit rate to hold at 2.50% following 25-basis-point hikes in June and September, amid 3.8% September inflation.
