ECB's Lagarde: The economy is proving resilient
European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde delivered an optimistic assessment of the Eurozone economy, noting that regional economic performance continues to prove resilient. According to Lagarde, this economic resilience is expected to persist through the third quarter, supported by solid manufacturing output and a noticeable rebound in consumer confidence. She highlighted that the near-term economic outlook has improved, with broader economic activity projected to receive additional support from rising business and housing investments. While the labor market remains structurally robust, Lagarde observed that employment growth continues to experience a moderate slowdown. On the international front, Eurozone exports continue to face headwind challenges related to global competitiveness and shifting trade policy frameworks. Addressing inflation dynamics, the ECB chief pointed out that refining margins have provided a strong upward contribution to recent price pressures, while wage developments have not yet exhibited a notable reaction to higher energy costs.
