Dubai’s Regulatory Push Is Fueling Forex Growth. But Is It Enough?

Dubai’s fintech-friendly regulations, upgraded payments infrastructure and talent attraction are accelerating its emergence as a regional forex hub. Regulators (CBUAE, DFSA) have introduced open finance APIs, sandboxes and planned mid‑2026 FX/remittance licences (including a 100% foreign‑owned remittance licence requiring ~AED 25m capital), lowering friction for brokers, liquidity providers and algorithmic firms. Faster payment rails (Aani launched late 2023), CBDC pilots (Project mBridge) and cross‑border payment links are tightening spreads, improving settlement and boosting transaction volumes. The UAE currency market (USD flow context) was $4.15bn in 2024 and is forecast to reach ~$7.39bn by 2033. Increased inbound interest (15–25% rise in broker inquiries) and reported conversion improvements (example: +30% conversion, -25% declines) signal meaningful market impact and a bullish outlook for FX activity from Dubai.
