Derivatives DEX, Data Availability Lead Crypto Sector Rotation as Ethereum Lags

Crypto capital is rotating from last week’s leaders (privacy coins, Ethereum) into infrastructure-adjacent themes, concentrating gains in derivatives DEXs and data availability. As of the week to April 21 UTC, derivatives-focused DEXes led with a 24.7% FDV jump and data availability rose 22.7%, while core large-cap Ethereum slipped (-0.6%) and Bitcoin posted modest gains (+2.1%). The shift favors on-chain execution, scaling and trading-venue narratives over broad large-cap exposure, driving selective risk-on flows into NFT apps, gaming and utilities/services while defensive data/service verticals see steadier inflows. Bridges underperformed (-10.6%), highlighting continued security concerns and prompting avoidance of risky plumbing layers. The market remains upward biased but fragmented; if rotation persists, modular scaling and derivatives-exchange themes could lead further while Ethereum may need fresh catalysts to regain momentum.
