Deribit to Route Most Spot Orders to Coinbase under New Dubai Licence
Deribit has obtained a Dubai VARA Broker-Dealer Licence that lets most spot orders on its platform be routed to Coinbase Exchange for execution, while Deribit remains the client-facing venue. The change expands Deribit’s spot offering to retail, qualified, and institutional clients, and should improve access to deeper liquidity and more listed assets via Coinbase. Deribit’s derivatives business in Dubai remains restricted to qualified and institutional investors under existing permissions. The move is a practical integration step following Coinbase’s 2025 acquisition of Deribit for about $2.9 billion, signaling the deal is beginning to create operating synergies. The structure may also allow spot assets to later serve as derivatives collateral, pending regulatory approval. Overall, the announcement is constructive for Coinbase and Deribit’s trading ecosystem, emphasizing regulatory progress, liquidity expansion, and stronger product connectivity rather than direct price impact on BTC.
