Dangote Breaks Ground on 700,000-Bpd Unit, Lifting Capacity to 1.4 Million Bpd

Dangote Petroleum began construction on June 4 of a second 700,000-bpd crude unit at its Lekki complex, taking total capacity to 1.4 million bpd by end-2028. The move follows the June 2 announcement that the existing 650,000-bpd plant, already running at full capacity with surplus jet fuel for export, will be replicated. On the same day, India’s Nayara Energy restarted its 400,000-bpd Vadinar refinery after maintenance, boosting domestic supply and competition for Russian crude amid sharply reduced 2026 demand forecasts.
