Cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin Down 3% This Week
Major cryptocurrencies experienced broad declines over the past week as of September 16, led downward by XRP, Bitcoin, and Ether. Bitcoin retreated 3% for the week, pushing its year-to-date loss to approximately 13% and leaving the flagship digital asset roughly 39% below its previous record highs. Despite the pullback, Bitcoin continues to show structural resilience and maintains the lead in long-term relative performance against other major digital assets since 2017. Ether also faced downward pressure, sliding 2% over the same weekly period. The second-largest cryptocurrency is now down approximately 19% year-to-date and sits nearly 50% below its record peak. Meanwhile, XRP underperformed its larger peers, dropping 7% week-over-week, bringing its year-to-date decline to roughly 29% and standing 63% below its record high. The widespread retreat across crypto markets reflects ongoing volatility and consolidation following the regulatory rollouts of spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs. Market participants continue navigating drawdown risks while utilizing new exchange-traded products to manage exposure across the digital asset ecosystem.
