Crypto Goes Mainstream in Canada, Ownership Reaches 25%
A new Ontario Securities Commission survey suggests crypto has moved into the mainstream in Canada, with 25% of Canadians now holding digital assets or crypto investment funds, up from 10% in 2023 and 13% in 2022. Adoption is broader among investors, with nearly 39% owning some crypto product. The report also shows improving awareness and diligence: 59% of Canadians can correctly identify what a crypto asset is, and 50% of crypto owners now check whether a trading platform is registered before investing, versus 38% previously. The findings are supportive for the broader crypto market because they indicate rising penetration, improved trust, and more practical use cases beyond speculation, including stablecoin usage and international transfers. Coinbase Canada highlighted the data as evidence that digital assets are now part of the financial mainstream in the country.
