Core Lightning Urges Immediate Upgrades as Attackers Target Unpatched Bitcoin Nodes
Core Lightning developers have issued an urgent warning advising node operators running version 26.06.7 or earlier to upgrade immediately as attackers actively target unpatched nodes. The flaws could allow malicious actors to crash nodes, exhaust server memory, or trigger channel-closing glitches that cause funds to be lost to penalty mechanisms. The alerts follow an investigation launched on September 16 and the subsequent release of patch version 26.06.8 on September 22. Active targeting surfaced roughly 10 days after the fix was deployed, though developers have withheld technical exploit specifics and confirmed losses have not been disclosed.
