Commercial Tanker Struck by Projectiles off Qatar in Deep Persian Gulf Escalation
A commercial tanker was struck by multiple projectiles approximately 51 nautical miles north of Madinat ash Shamal, Qatar, marking the first attack deep inside the Persian Gulf in nearly a month. The UK Maritime Trade Operations verified the attack, which occurred late Wednesday around 1900 GMT and resulted in crew casualties. This represents a significant geographical escalation beyond the Strait of Hormuz chokepoint, following at least 12 vessel attacks in the preceding week and nine recorded attacks near the strait during the first seven days of October, driving up maritime risks.
