Coinsbuy Faces Reported $7.9 Million Crypto Hack Amid Rising 2026 Attacks
Coinsbuy reportedly suffered a $7.9 million crypto theft after wallets tied to its payments platform were drained across Ethereum and Tron. The attacker quickly laundered the stolen assets into Monero via exchanges, while ChangeNOW reportedly froze a six-figure amount connected to the funds. Coinsbuy temporarily paused deposits and withdrawals before resuming services. The incident is notable as the largest crypto hack reported in August so far and adds to a broader 2026 trend of rising hack frequency even as total losses have declined versus last year. TRM Labs recorded 207 hacks in H1 2026, more than double the prior year, but estimated losses fell to about $972 million from roughly $2.3 billion in H1 2025.
