Chinese chipmakers claim nearly half of local market as Nvidia's lead shrinks
Chinese GPU and AI chipmakers captured roughly 41% of China’s AI accelerator server market in 2025, significantly eroding Nvidia’s prior dominance, Reuters/IDC data show. Total shipments in China were about 4 million cards: Nvidia remained the market leader with ~2.2 million cards (55%), but domestic firms collectively shipped ~1.65 million (41%). Huawei led Chinese vendors with ~812,000 shipments, Alibaba’s T-Head shipped ~265,000, and Baidu’s Kunlunxin and Cambricon shipped about 116,000 each. AMD held a modest ~4% share (~160,000). The shift reflects intensified U.S. export controls cutting China off from Nvidia’s most advanced products and Beijing policies nudging buyers toward domestic alternatives, boosting local vendors and narrowing Nvidia’s lead in a key overseas market.
