Central Bank Gold Buying Surges 42% in Third Quarter, WGC Reports

Global gold demand remained near record highs in the third quarter, underpinned by central banks purchasing a net 321 metric tons of bullion, a 42% year-over-year surge and the fastest pace since late 2024. According to the World Gold Council, year-to-date central bank buying rose 6% year-over-year, while total nine-month global demand reached 3,881 tonnes valued at a record $566 billion. Although total third-quarter demand slipped 1% to 1,369 tonnes, substantial official sector demand alongside 211 tonnes of ETF inflows counteracted a 17% decline in jewelry demand.
