Cboe Eyes Shift to Perpetual Futures for Bitcoin Ether Products

Cboe Global Markets is actively exploring conversion of its Bitcoin (PBT) and Ether (PET) continuous futures into true perpetual contracts, removing the existing 10-year expiration structure. The development follows the CFTC’s May 2026 approval of Kalshi’s bitcoin perpetual futures and new regulatory guidance issued May 29 that boosted acceptance of crypto-native derivatives. Cboe’s existing products already feature daily settlement and automatic rolling; a full shift would eliminate workarounds and position the exchange as a stronger onshore competitor to offshore venues. Perpetual futures generated $61.7 trillion in volume during 2025, underscoring the market opportunity. No implementation timeline has been confirmed.
