Cars.com Announces Its 2026 Most American-Made Vehicles Ahead of Country’s 250th

Cars.com released its 2026 American-Made Index, highlighting 86 vehicles and showing how tariffs and changing EV incentives are reshaping U.S. auto production. Tesla remained the top brand, with the Model 3 ranked No. 1 for the sixth straight year and the Model Y No. 2. The list features heavy representation from Honda, Toyota, Ford, Jeep and Lexus, underscoring that many “American-made” vehicles are built by foreign automakers in U.S. plants. Cars.com noted that the top 10 vehicles matched the highest average domestic parts content since the methodology changed in 2020. The report also said electrified vehicles’ share of the index slipped to 24% from 30%, driven mainly by a sharp decline in EVs after the federal tax credit ended in fall 2025. Overall, the index suggests U.S. auto manufacturing remains resilient but is adapting to tariff pressure, higher costs, and a slower EV mix shift.
