BOJ Raises Rate to 1%, Nikkei Eases 0.2% to 69,182

The Bank of Japan lifted its policy rate to 1.0% from 0.75% on June 16, the highest level since 1995. Markets had already priced in the move after the Nikkei 225 surged above 69,700 on June 15, adding $465 billion in value on the US-Iran peace deal. The index then slipped 0.2% to 69,182 while the Topix fell 0.3%, as investors focused on Deputy Governor Uchida’s guidance on the pace of future hikes rather than the decision itself.
