BlackRock’s IBIT Bitcoin ETF Surges Past Gold ETF GLD by 33 Percentage Points Since March

BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) has outperformed the SPDR Gold Trust (GLD) by 33 percentage points from early March through late May, highlighting a notable rotation of capital toward bitcoin-based products. Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas reported roughly $4.2 billion of net inflows into IBIT over the period versus about $9 billion of net outflows from GLD — a $13 billion divergence. The data suggest growing investor preference for bitcoin’s liquidity and upside as an alternative to gold, though GLD still holds over $60 billion in AUM and a long track record.
