Bitsurance Rolls Out Physical Attack Insurance for Self-Custodied Bitcoin

Bitsurance has launched coverage protecting self-custodied Bitcoin against physical threats including fire, burglary, robbery and extortion. The German insurer, underwritten by Liberty Specialty Markets, allows users to retain key custody while receiving market-value reimbursement. The product responds to a 75% year-over-year surge in wrench attacks in 2025, with 72 incidents causing over $40 million in losses. CEO Chris Seedor, who once spent 1,500 BTC on a graphics card, previously developed stainless-steel seed backups before moving into insurance. Initial limits start at €100,000, with higher coverage available, and expansion beyond Germany is planned.
